A Great Find!

I could kick myself when I realized I didn't have my camera with me especially when we were not looking, we found this great little restaurant in Oak Harbor that serves some surprisingly good food.
We are fairly new to this area and trying to look for some decent places that are not corporate-owned has proven to be kinda hard.  But, this afternoon out of hunger and running out of patience, we decided to just wing this place.  If it turned out to be bad, we would never go back again.
As soon as we stepped in, we were greeted by my favourite music from the nostalgic 1930s.  The interior has a Parisian sidewalk cafe feel, somewhat and we sat in the front window.  As far as the menu went, the fare seemed decent and after we ordered, the waiter brought us a basket of muffins.  They were terrific!  We ordered sandwiches and burgers and the portions were just right. Nothing to waste and nothing left on the plate when we were done with it.  We left the restaurant very satisfied and very sure that we will be coming back here for more meals.
The reason we never tried this place was because from the outside, it didn't captivate us.  The interior is fairly dark and I believe if the owner had spent some time and money to spruce it up, their business may be more brisk.  We were there on a Tuesday, maybe a slow day for them normally but it would be interesting to know how well they normally do.

This Little Button is one week old!

This time last week, Benton was born.

He has been sleeping, eating and quite to everyone's surprise, being quite a good baby.  Within a week, he is already sleeping through the night except to wake up for his three times nightly feedings with the least amount of crying.

By day  six, he is staying awake longer and is looking around with his inquisitive eyes.

Baby's first trail walk

Hmmm...in deep thoughts.

Bundled up in his swag, Benton is ready for his first walk in the woods.

Taking advantage of the rare nice Northwestern winter weather when neither the winds were blowing or the rain pelting down, we set off on a walk through the woods behind the house.  It is a pleasant walk through conifer trees, moss laden branches and bark laden paths.  The smell of the woods invigorates our lungs.

This is one of the garbage we saw strewn in the middle of the woods.  I don't understand why on earth people would drag their trash all the way into the woods and leave them here when there are places in town who would willingly take them for scraps.

The Rottie ran through the woods.  I was a bit ahead of him and he was running in full might to catch up.  With the setting, it is easy to imagine one in the middle of Sherwood Forest and a very fast horse was running and galloping towards us.  That was how this mighty machine in full flight sounded.

This is for YeeMa !!

Benton's first pacifier
Benton's YeeMa will be walking around tonight at LAX while waiting for her flight out to Melbourne.  So, I thought I would fill her in on the latest that her newborn nephew has been up to.  He has his first pacifier and for the first time in five days, everyone in the household has a good night's sleep!  The nurse said that contrary to what a lot of people think about giving newborns pacifiers is actually something that is nurturing for the infant.  Somehow, they feel more safe and it would not affect their gums.  I'd buy that!

Getting to Know You

Sleeping cutie
I am staying a while longer after all as daughter and I have worked it out.  I hate tensions like these but hvaing the guts to sit down and pour our hearts out has worked for the best.  I know that old traditions have a lot of superstitions and ignorance and I have enough sense not to follow all the way through with the confinement to the tee.  I am glad  daughter realizes that, and I,too sat down to listen more closely to her feelings.
Spending time with this precious bundle is way too much to get into a huff about, don't you agree?

Naik Pangkat!

That means a promotion!  Benton Sean Adams was born in the wee hours of Monday morning.  I am not bias, but I would like to proclaim that he is a handsome little fellow and to-date, quite well-behaved!

Unfortunately, I am not able to carry-out my duty as a Chinese mother to give my daughter the almost traditional Chinese afterbirth confinement.  She, being a full-fledged westernized new-age woman has not been able to embrace any customs and traditions from her roots.  Much to my dismay.

Knock! Knock!

One of the activities we do to pass the time.

We have been counting on the days.
Imagine this.
When you are waiting the arrival of a baby, there are three layers of "waiting rooms".  Closer to the due date, everyone gathers at the house to get ready for its arrival.  What needs to be done is almost done and msot of the time, we are all just waiting for the mother to start signs of the baby's impending arrival into this world.  Baby Benton informed his mother to expect his arrival at 3 this morning.  She woke up with bad back pains and contractions four minutes apart.  We drove to the hospital.

Fresh out of the oven baby hats!

We are now in the second "waiting room" where everyone is in the room awaiting the nurse's diagnosis of her situation.  For now, she has to go home as the contractions have subsided and the pain level is not that bad.
The third "waiting room" will be when she finally delivers Benton and that I feel is still at least a day away?

Dawn has broken but yet no sign of baby Benton.
